Human rights attorney Richard Spoor and his legal team have taken ambitious legal action against dozens of leading gold mine companies allegedly responsible for knowingly harming their workers. He has retained American law firm, Motley Rice LLC, to consult on the litigation. Spoor seeks class certification in litigation for gold miners who have mine-related silicosis and dependents of gold mine workers who died after contracting this often fatal lung disease. These groundbreaking efforts have the potential to achieve justice for tens of thousands of workers who have never before had a voice in this country, as well as change the landscape of litigation in South Africa.
